XRP Ledger Bug Fix Delayed to Nov. 4 After a Two-Hour Vote Dip

The XRP Ledger bug fix fixCleanup3_4_0 slipped from Oct. 23 to Nov. 4 after validator votes fell to 26 of 35. Here is why, and what it means for lending.

Explained in 30 seconds

  • A bundle of XRP Ledger fixes lost its majority for about two hours on Oct. 21, when yes votes fell to 26 of 35 validators.
  • That reset the mandatory 14-day countdown, moving activation from Oct. 23 to Nov. 4, 2026; support is now 31 of 35.
  • The patch tightens token, vault and lending rules, but the lending system itself is still 10 votes short of a majority.

Quick answer: The XRP Ledger bug fix fixCleanup3_4_0 will now activate around 14:46 UTC on Nov. 4, 2026, not Oct. 23. Validator support fell to 26 of 35 on Oct. 21, below the 29 needed, which reset its 14-day countdown, per XRPL Dashboard and XRPLWin.

The XRP Ledger bug fix known as fixCleanup3_4_0 will not switch on this week after all. A short drop in validator support on Oct. 21, 2026 reset its two-week countdown, so activation moved from Oct. 23 to Nov. 4.

Nothing is broken on the network, and no funds are at risk from the delay. Still, the episode shows how thin the margin was, and why the XRP Ledger’s planned lending features keep slipping.

What happened to the XRP Ledger bug fix?

Every rule change on the XRP Ledger ships as an amendment. To go live, it needs yes votes from more than 80% of the 35 validators on the default trusted list. That means 29. Crucially, that support must hold at every vote check for 14 days in a row.

The fix first reached a majority on Oct. 9, according to the XRPLWin explorer. It then held for about 12 days and three hours. At that point, activation was penciled in for 09:34 UTC on Oct. 23, CoinDesk reported.

However, the fix had zero votes to spare. At a check at 12:54 UTC on Oct. 21, only 26 validators were voting yes, per XRPL Dashboard. By 14:46 UTC, the count was back at 29. Even so, the clock had already restarted. XRPLWin now projects activation at 14:46 UTC on Nov. 4, 2026, provided support never slips again.

Neither tracker says which validators dropped out. In fact, a server that is offline or restarting during a check counts the same as a “no.” So the dip may reflect maintenance rather than any objection to the code.

What does fixCleanup3_4_0 change?

The amendment is a set of small repairs, not a new feature. It shipped with xrpld 3.4.0 on Sept. 16, 2026, according to the XRPL.org release post. Key changes include:

  • Token minting loophole. Delegated payments limited to burning tokens can no longer cross a zero balance and mint new ones.
  • Trust line blocks. An issuer’s block on incoming trust lines now also covers offers, so it can’t be bypassed through the exchange.
  • AMM clawbacks. A clawback can no longer burn a holder’s pool tokens while recovering nothing.
  • Signature replay. Sponsor and counterparty signatures get separate prefixes, so one can’t be reused as the other.
  • Vaults and loans. Rounding in vault deposits and withdrawals is tighter. In addition, a loan only counts as late or in default once its due date has strictly passed.

Notably, this is a different patch from the overflow flaw that RippleX disclosed on Oct. 9. That bug could have printed XRP from nothing, and it was fixed in xrpld 3.4.1 without a vote. By contrast, fixCleanup3_4_0 follows the normal amendment process.

Why does a two-hour dip matter?

First, it exposes how close many votes run. The XRPL documentation lists this amendment’s default vote as “No,” per the known amendments list. As a result, each operator must opt in by hand, and the yes count can stall at exactly the threshold.

Second, the fix now has a buffer. XRPLWin showed 31 of 35 validators (88.6%) in favor on Oct. 22. That leaves two votes of headroom, compared with none during the first attempt.

Third, the wider lending stack is much further back. As the chart below shows, the core vault and lending amendments sit well under the 29-vote bar.

Bar chart of XRP Ledger amendment votes on Oct. 22, 2026: fixCleanup3_4_0 at 31 of 35 validators above the 29-vote bar, while SingleAssetVault, LendingProtocol and DynamicMPT sit at 17 to 21

XRPL Dashboard listed 97 amendments live on mainnet at 07:56 UTC on Oct. 22, plus 10 in flight, meaning supported by some validators but not yet enabled. Only fixCleanup3_4_0 is in countdown. SingleAssetVault had 21 votes, while LendingProtocol and LendingProtocolV1_1 had 19 each. In other words, lending is 10 votes short of even starting its own two-week clock.

That matters for Ripple’s institutional pitch. Lenders would park XRP or other tokens in vaults, and brokers would lend them out for a fixed term. Banks already use the ledger for products such as Standard Chartered’s RLUSD custody, but native onchain credit is still not live.

How did the XRP price react?

Barely. XRP traded at $1.34 at 07:54 UTC on Oct. 22, down 0.3% in 24 hours, per CoinGecko. Bitcoin was at $82,137, down 1.2% over the same period. Amendment timing rarely moves price on its own, and broader market mood has dominated this week. What to watch next

  • The 29-vote floor. If yes votes fall to 28 or fewer at any check before Nov. 4, the countdown restarts again.
  • Activation on Nov. 4. Votes are counted every 256 ledgers, roughly every 16.5 minutes. So the switch should land shortly after 14:46 UTC, at the next check.
  • Server upgrades. Once the fix is on, servers that have not upgraded to a supporting version risk being cut off from the network, so operators should update before then.
  • Lending votes. Watch whether SingleAssetVault and LendingProtocol gain the 8 to 10 extra validators they need.

XRP Ledger Bug Fix FAQ

When will the XRP Ledger bug fix go live?

If support stays above 80% of trusted validators without a break, fixCleanup3_4_0 activates around 14:46 UTC on Nov. 4, 2026, per XRPLWin. It was originally due at 09:34 UTC on Oct. 23.

Why was the XRP Ledger fix delayed?

Yes votes fell to 26 of 35 trusted validators at a check at 12:54 UTC on Oct. 21, 2026, below the 29 required. Any dip resets the 14-day countdown, so the clock restarted when support returned at 14:46 UTC.

Does the delay put XRP holders at risk?

No known risk comes from the delay itself. The amendment bundles fixes for token, AMM, vault and lending edge cases, and the most serious recent flaw, an overflow bug, was already fixed in xrpld 3.4.1 in September.
