About Solana (SOL)
Solana is a high-throughput layer-1 blockchain designed for fast, low-cost transactions. Anatoly Yakovenko founded the project, and its mainnet beta launched in March 2020. Solana pairs proof of stake with a timekeeping technique it calls proof of history. That lets validators process transactions in parallel and confirm blocks in well under a second.
SOL is the native token. It pays transaction fees, which are typically a fraction of a cent, and holders can stake it with validators to secure the network and earn rewards. SOL has no fixed maximum supply. The protocol issues new tokens as staking rewards on an inflation schedule that started at 8% a year and falls gradually toward a long-term rate of 1.5%. The network also burns part of each transaction fee.
As a result, low fees have made Solana a hub for trading apps, memecoins, payments and consumer apps. However, the network also suffered several outages in 2021 and 2022. Since then, developers have worked on reliability, including Firedancer, a second independent validator client.

Solana price FAQ
Why are Solana fees so low?
Solana processes many transactions in parallel, so block space is abundant and base fees stay tiny. During busy periods, users can add priority fees to get processed faster.
Does SOL have a supply cap?
No. SOL is inflationary; however, the yearly issuance rate falls over time toward 1.5%, and the network burns part of each transaction fee.
Where does this page get the SOL price?
The price comes from CoinGecko’s aggregated market data, with Binance’s SOL/USDT pair as a fallback. It refreshes about every 60 seconds.
Can I stake SOL?
Yes. For example, you can delegate SOL to a validator from most Solana wallets, or use liquid staking tokens. Rewards vary, and validators charge a commission.
Is Solana a good investment?
CryptoVank does not give investment advice. SOL has been more volatile than Bitcoin. Only risk money you can afford to lose.
