Quick answer: On Oct. 27, 2026, investor Jason Calacanis posted on X that Bitcoin will \”never break its all-time high again\” and will retest $57,000 within 12 months. Grant Cardone and Fred Krueger each offered $1 million bets that BTC tops $126,210.50. Bitcoin traded near $81,000 on Oct. 29, per CoinGecko.
The Calacanis Bitcoin call has turned into one of the loudest fights on crypto X this week. On Oct. 27, 2026, at 05:46 UTC, angel investor Jason Calacanis told his followers to “dump” Bitcoin and move the money into artificial intelligence. His post on X has passed 2.1 million views. Within a day, two well-known Bitcoin holders put $1 million each on the table to prove him wrong.
So far, nobody has shaken hands on a deal. Here is what was said, what the bets actually require, and what the data shows.
What did Jason Calacanis say about Bitcoin?
Calacanis made three claims. First, he wrote that “outflows from ETFs are signal and will continue.” Second, he predicted Bitcoin “will test the 57k low again in the next 12 months.” Third, and most boldly, he ended with: “Bitcoin will never break its all-time high again.”
His reasoning was that the hype cycle is over. He called Bitcoin “a dead network that offers nothing beyond a store of value” and said investors should “shift from Bitcoin to Super Intelligence.”
He later added in replies that he is “not short bitcoin” and joked that readers should “wait until you read next month’s bitcoin is over post.”
What are the $1 million Bitcoin bets?
Two public offers came in on Oct. 28, 2026. Both use the same finish line: Bitcoin’s October 2025 record of $126,210.50.
| Fred Krueger | Grant Cardone | |
|---|---|---|
| Posted | Oct. 28, 04:46 UTC | Oct. 28, 12:36 UTC |
| Stake | $1,000,000 | $1,000,000 |
| Condition | BTC exceeds $126,210.50 | BTC hits or exceeds $126,210.50 |
| Deadline | Oct. 28, 2036 | Oct. 28, 2028, 12 p.m. PST |
| Settlement | Independent escrow, price oracle | Trust or independent escrow |
Krueger’s offer gives Calacanis 10 years. “You said NEVER,” he wrote. Cardone’s offer, which has topped 1.2 million views, is much tighter at two years. Cardone even criticized Krueger’s timeline, saying a serious bet “would not be longer than 12-18 months.”
Calacanis replied “So much free money!” according to a screenshot shared by Simply Bitcoin. However, at 23:46 UTC, Cardone posted that “He did not accept the bet!” Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong also weighed in, writing: “Don’t make us start an inverse-Calacanis index Jason!”
How far is Bitcoin from its all-time high?
Bitcoin traded near $81,027 at about 01:00 UTC on Oct. 29, 2026, up roughly 0.5% over 24 hours, per CoinGecko. That is about 36% below the $126,210.50 record. To win either bet, BTC needs to climb roughly 56% from here. Track live moves on our Bitcoin price page.
For context, Galaxy flagged $76,540 as the key trend line, as we covered in our bear-market analysis. The $57,000 level Calacanis named would be about 30% below today’s price.
Are Bitcoin ETF outflows really continuing?
Not in the latest data. US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in a net $110.3 million on Oct. 26 and $176.0 million on Oct. 27, 2026, a combined $286.3 million, per our Bitcoin ETF flows tracker. That cuts against the “outflows will continue” claim, at least for now. Two days of inflows do not make a trend, though.
On the bullish side, Bitwise just raised its 2036 base case to $1.6 million, as detailed in our Bitwise report. Stacks co-founder Muneeb Ali, meanwhile, agreed with Calacanis that investors have more options today than in 2020. Calacanis then asked him to explain why Bitcoin “should be worth 150-200k.”
What does the Calacanis Bitcoin debate mean for traders?
Mostly, it is a sentiment signal. Loud “Bitcoin is dead” calls often appear near periods of low retail interest. Even so, they are not a timing tool.
- Watch flows, not posts. ETF data shows whether big money is leaving or buying.
- Watch the levels. $76,540 and $57,000 are the downside markers in this debate.
- Watch the escrow. A signed, funded bet would be news; public offers alone are not.
