Quick answer: Ledger Atom is a $849 data-only Android device with a separate EAL6+ secure chip for signing crypto, unveiled on Oct. 15, 2026. A $100 refundable deposit reserves the Founders Edition, the price rises to $899 after launch, and shipping is expected in summer 2027, per Ledger.
Ledger Atom is official. On Oct. 15, 2026, at its Op3n event in Paris, Ledger unveiled a phone-shaped security device that runs everyday Android apps but hands crypto signing to a separate secure chip. The Founders Edition costs $849, and deliveries are expected in summer 2027.
The launch lands one week after Ledger confirmed tampered signers sold through reseller CryptoBilis. So the big question is simple: is a $849 device the answer, or just a pricier target?

What is Ledger Atom?
Ledger calls Atom a “security and privacy device”, not a smartphone. It runs a hardened Android Open Source Project build for normal apps. Ledger OS runs on its own Common Criteria EAL6+ secure element, the same class of chip used in passports and bank cards.
When you approve a payment, sign a transaction or set permissions for an AI agent, the device switches to Secure Mode. Ledger OS then takes over the whole screen. The camera, microphone and motion sensors switch off, and a “Secure Bar” that only the secure chip can draw shows you are in that mode, per the Atom product page.
How much does it cost, and when does it ship?
The Founders Edition costs $849, reserved with a fully refundable $100 deposit. After launch, the price rises to $899, according to The Block and The Verge. That is well above Ledger’s current signers, which range from $69 to $399.
Ledger lists shipping for summer 2027 and calls Q2 2027 an estimate, not a commitment. Delivery also depends on FCC approval in the US and CE marking in the EU. Founders also get a $50 BTC voucher and a Ledger Recovery Key.
What are the Ledger Atom specs?
According to Ledger and The Verge, the main specs are:
- 6.77-inch AMOLED “Trusted Display” (60Hz) and a Qualcomm Dragonwing chip
- 50 MP rear camera and 32 MP front camera
- Fingerprint sensor in the power button and a physical privacy switch that cuts the camera and mic at circuit level
- 4G/5G (eSIM only, data only), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, NFC and USB-C
- 4,000 mAh user-replaceable battery, five years of Android updates and spare parts for seven years
Can it make phone calls?
No. Atom connects to mobile networks for data only. It has no cellular voice calls, no SMS and no emergency calls to 112 or 911, Ledger says in its FAQ. Calls work only through internet apps over data or Wi-Fi. Some carriers may not offer eSIM plans for data-only devices, so check before you reserve.
Ledger’s head of PR told The Verge the device is “not designed to replace your phone”.
Does Atom fix the tampering problem?
Ledger says Atom has its “most advanced anti-tampering” design so far. A protective enclosure around the secure element, MCU and FPGA is built to detect drilling or opening. The device also detects when the display or back cover is removed. Each back cover is paired to one unit, and the packaging is tamper-evident.
The Verge reports Ledger says these measures would have blocked the screen-reading implants found in the CryptoBilis units. However, that claim has not been tested on shipping hardware yet. Until then, buying direct and checking any hardware wallet is genuine matters more than the model you pick.
Market implications
Atom moves Ledger from crypto signers toward a general privacy device with AI-agent controls. Agents can propose transactions, but you approve them on the secure screen. The Block also reports a Solana Mobile integration.
For self-custody users, the trade-off is clear: more convenience and a bigger screen, but a higher price, a 2027 delivery date and a larger device to secure. Our self-custody wallet setup guide covers the basics that apply to any signer.
Ledger Atom FAQ
How much does Atom cost?
The Founders Edition costs $849 with a fully refundable $100 deposit, per Ledger. After launch, the regular price rises to $899, according to The Block and The Verge.
When will Ledger’s new device ship?
Ledger expects deliveries in summer 2027 and gives Q2 2027 as an estimate, not a commitment. Shipping also depends on regulatory approvals such as FCC authorization in the US and CE marking in the EU.
Is it a smartphone?
No. Ledger says Atom is a data-only device: it supports 4G/5G data via eSIM but no cellular calls, SMS or emergency calls. Voice and video calls work only through internet apps.
Can I cancel a reservation?
Yes. Ledger says you can cancel any time before paying the balance, and the $100 deposit is refunded in full in the currency you paid.
Is Ledger Atom safer than a Ledger Nano?
Both keep keys on an EAL6+ secure element. Atom adds tamper detection and a secure full-screen mode, but it also runs Android apps, so its attack surface is larger. Independent testing will only be possible once units ship in 2027.
