Explained in 30 seconds

  • Euronext suspended the CoinShares Zcash ETP (ZCSH) on Oct. 28, 2026, the day of its planned Paris debut.
  • Euronext says the halt is purely about settlement and lasts until the securities depository can support it.
  • ZEC traded near $1,281 at 13:49 UTC, almost triple its August low, so demand for Zcash products remains strong.

Quick answer: The CoinShares Zcash ETP (ZCSH) was suspended on Euronext Paris on Oct. 28, 2026, the day it was due to start trading. Euronext said the halt is limited to operational settlement requirements and will last until the central securities depository can fully support settlement.

The CoinShares Zcash ETP was suspended on Euronext Paris on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, the same day it was due to start trading. Euronext says the halt is about settlement plumbing, not about the product itself, and it has given no date for a restart.

That makes this a delay rather than a rejection. Still, it is an awkward start for what would have been Europe’s fourth Zcash exchange-traded product.

What happened to the CoinShares Zcash ETP?

CoinShares announced the launch of the product, ticker ZCSH, earlier on Wednesday as part of its CoinShares Physical range. Hours later, a Euronext notice said the ETP was suspended from trading on Euronext Paris “until further notice.” The notice gave no reason, Cointelegraph reported.

A Euronext spokesperson, Flavio Bornancin-Tomasella, then explained the move to Cointelegraph. He said the suspension would stay in place until “standard settlement operations can be fully supported by the Central Securities Depository (CSD).” He added that the measure was strictly limited to “operational settlement requirements.”

According to Crypto Briefing, the ETP is fully backed by physical ZEC and charges a 1.5% annual management fee. It lets investors hold Zcash through an ordinary brokerage account, with no private keys to manage. CoinShares had not responded to Cointelegraph’s request for comment at publication.

Why the settlement halt matters

A central securities depository is the back office of a stock market. It records who owns each security and makes sure shares and cash change hands after a trade. If the depository cannot process a new product yet, the exchange cannot let it trade. Otherwise, buyers and sellers could end up with trades that fail to settle.

In our view, the wording matters here. Euronext did not cite regulation, investor protection or Zcash’s privacy features. It pointed only to operations. That points to a technical onboarding gap, which is usually fixed in days or weeks, not a policy stance against privacy coins.

However, privacy coins do face extra scrutiny in Europe. So the market will watch closely to see whether “operational” stays the only explanation. A long delay with no update would raise harder questions.

Data and context: ZEC’s big run

Demand for Zcash exposure is easy to see in the price. ZEC traded at $1,281 at 13:49 UTC on Oct. 28, 2026, up 1.1% in 24 hours, per CoinGecko. Its market value stood near $21.8 billion.

Zcash 90-day price chart from CoinGecko: ZEC rose from a $457 low on Aug. 1 to a $1,653 peak on Sept. 27 and traded near $1,283 on Oct. 28, 2026
ZEC has nearly tripled in 90 days but sits about 22% below its late-September peak. Data: CoinGecko. Chart: CryptoVank.

That price is almost triple the 90-day low of $457 set on Aug. 1. ZEC then peaked at $1,653 on Sept. 27, so it now sits about 22% below that high. Earlier on Wednesday, ZEC led the large-cap coins with an 8% jump to about $1,320, CoinDesk reported. For comparison, bitcoin traded at $80,483 at the time of writing.

Meanwhile, Europe already has three Zcash ETPs. 21Shares, Virtune and Valor all launched products earlier this year, according to Cointelegraph. As a result, the CoinShares Zcash ETP enters a crowded field. Its edge would be the CoinShares brand and its reach with Paris-based investors.

The project itself is also in the news. This week, a Zcash co-founder proposed ending the grants subsidy, citing a treasury of more than $125 million. We covered that debate in our report on the Zcash grants funding proposal.

What to watch next

First, watch for a new Euronext notice lifting the suspension. That would confirm the issue was purely technical. Second, look for a statement from CoinShares on timing. Third, check whether the product lists first on another venue while Paris catches up.

Beyond the listing, ZEC remains a high-volatility asset. It moved more than 8% in a single session this week. Wider market mood also matters. Galaxy recently argued that bitcoin’s bear market may already be over, as we noted in our look at the Galaxy call. A risk-on market would likely help any new altcoin product.
