Quick answer: JPMorgan has made JPM Coin (JPMD), its tokenized US dollar deposit, available to institutional clients on Ethereum, Bloomberg and The Block reported on Oct. 19, 2026. The token launched on Coinbase’s Base network in November 2025. It is a bank deposit, not a stablecoin, and only approved clients can use it.
JPM Coin is now live on Ethereum. JPMorgan said on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, that its dollar deposit token is available to institutional clients on the main Ethereum network, Bloomberg reported at about 07:38 UTC. Kinexys, the bank’s blockchain unit, told The Block that Ethereum’s “established depth of onchain liquidity and tokenized assets” made it the natural next chain.
The largest US bank now settles client dollars on the same chain that hosts most stablecoins. However, this is not a token you can buy on an exchange.

What did JPMorgan announce on Oct. 19?
JPM Coin, ticker JPMD, represents US dollars held at JPMorgan. Until now it ran only on Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network built within Coinbase. As of Oct. 19, approved clients can also move it on Ethereum’s main chain, 24 hours a day, in seconds.
According to Bloomberg, Emma Landriault, global head of Kinexys Labs, expects two main groups of users. The first is crypto firms that want to pay each other on-chain. The second is financial institutions that need digital cash to settle trades in tokenized assets or to post as collateral.
How does JPM Coin work?
Clients first put dollars into a Blockchain Deposit Account at JPMorgan. They then convert that balance into JPM Coin and can send it to other approved wallets. In the end, they can redeem it back to cash at any time, the bank says on its JPM Coin product page.
The path here was gradual. A proof of concept started in June 2025. Then, on Nov. 12, 2025, the token went live on Base after test transactions with B2C2, Coinbase and Mastercard. In April 2026, JPMorgan said Kinexys had processed more than $3 trillion since 2015 and averages more than $5 billion a day.
Is JPM Coin a stablecoin?
No. JPMorgan calls it a bank-issued deposit token, not a cryptocurrency or a stablecoin. A stablecoin such as USDC is issued by a company that holds reserves for anyone holding the token. By contrast, JPM Coin is a claim on a regular bank deposit, so it sits inside existing banking rules.
That design has a trade-off. Only vetted counterparties can take part, and transfers are recorded on a public ledger. Because of this, the token is not built for open DeFi apps, and retail users cannot hold it. The bank also warns that look-alike tokens using the same name are not affiliated with it. Why does Ethereum matter to JPMorgan?
Ethereum is where JPMorgan’s other tokenized products already live. On May 13, 2026, J.P. Morgan Asset Management launched JLTXX, a tokenized government money market fund on Ethereum. It held $628.48 million on Sep. 30, 2026, per its fact sheet.
Putting cash and funds on the same chain means a client could, in principle, pay for fund shares or post collateral without leaving Ethereum. That is the “onchain liquidity” Kinexys pointed to.
What does it mean for ETH and the market?
In the short term, very little. Ether traded at $2,429 and Bitcoin at $82,669 on Oct. 19 at 07:59 UTC, per CoinGecko, with ETH up about 0.9% in 24 hours. Track it on our Ethereum price page.
In the longer term, the signal is bigger. Banks are moving from private ledgers to public ones, and they are picking Ethereum and its layer-2s. Still, a permissioned token adds little in fees or DeFi demand on its own. The real test is whether more banks follow and whether volumes become visible on-chain.
